30 November 2022, Nairobi | The APRM continental secretariat in collaboration with the APRM National Secretariat in Kenya organised technical consultations on the forthcoming report on SDG 16 and governance goals of Agenda 2063. The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in collaboration with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat successfully convened a three (3)-day Continental validation meeting (validation meeting) to consider and validate the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation Review Mechanism (AfIRM) Proposal.   The meeting took place in Cape Town, South Africa from 30th October to 01st November 2022.

APRM STATEMENT ON THE RATING DOWNGRADE OF MAURITIUS BY MOODY’S

03 August 2022 - The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), an organ of the African Union (AU) that supports African countries in the area of credit ratings, undertakes routine analyses of rating actions assigned by international credit ratings agencies on African countries. The APRM has noted with concern the unsolicited rating action by Moody’s that resulted in the downgrade of the Government of Mauritius’ long-term foreign currency issuer rating from Baa2 to Baa3, and also a change in its outlook from negative to stable.

The APRM held the first Media Training as part of a sensitization mission led by Prof Eddy Maloka on the 27th and 28th June 2022 in Maseru, the Kingdom of Lesotho. The training consisted of a series of workshops. May 2022, Niamey, Niger - The republic of Niger, becomes the third out of the four countries reviewed in 2021, to harmonise and finalise its National Programme of Action (NPoA). The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) undertook four full reviews in 2021. Among these countries include Nigeria and South Africa (being the 2nd generation review), Niger and Namibia.

Now, almost two decades later, the APRM stretches across all AU regions, and includes 42 of the 55 AU Member States in the APRM community, with Burundi as the latest to accede at the 31st APR Forum of Heads of State and Government meeting held on 04 February 2022.

THE 31ST APRM FORUM OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESSION BY 2023

04 February 2022 (Virtual) – Under the auspice of the Chairperson of APR Forum, H.E Cyril Ramaphosa, the APRM held its virtual 31st Summit of the APR Forum of the Heads of State and Government. In his opening remarks, Chairperson of the APR Forum and President of the Republic of South Africa H.E Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude to all APR Forum Peers for the support afforded to him during his two (2) year tenure as Chair of the APR Forum.

Towards Universal Accession by 2023 a Reality as Burundi Confirms Accession to APRM

The President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Évariste NDAYISHIMIYE received in audience, a high-level delegation composed of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Continental Secretariat of the APRM, Professor Edward Maloka, Ms. Marethé Herfurth, Chargé d’Affaires representing the Ambassador of South Africa to Burundi, Mr. Gonzague-Patrick Balagizi, AU liaison Officer to the Great Lakes and Burundi, Dr. Valery Yao, Coordinator of Universal Accession to APRM and Ms. Thato Chabana Oceana, Personal Assistant to the CEO.
