18th September 2020, the APRM National Governing Council (NGC) of the Republic of South Africa held its second virtual meeting, which was preceded by an induction session hosted by the APRM Continent Secretariat.
Namibia Gearing Up for the Country’s Self-Assessment
In January 2017, Namibia joined the APRM as its 36th African Union member state, and the APRM has grown since then to include 40 African Union countries, with the accession of The Gambia in January 2018, Botswana in February 2019, and Seychelles and Zimbabwe on 08 February 2020.
Resilience Critical for Post-COVID-19 Recovery Approach
Johannesburg, 17 July 2020 – On the margins of the High-Level Political Forum 2020, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the United Nations jointly organized a virtual event entitled “Building resilient societies post-COVID-19 in the Global South”.
Johannesburg, July 2020 - A virtual sensitization mission was undertaken by the Targeted Review Division, coordinated by Mrs Janet Mabwa, with the Republic of Sierra Leone on June 25th and 26th 2020 to present among others, an overview of APRM, Mandate, Structures, Processes and Products, Targeted Reviews, the APRM preliminary report on the governance response to COVID-19 in AU member-states, APRM Governance Structures and their Roles, the e-questionnaire thereof, and the tentative roadmap for the country’s Targeted Review.
REPORT ON AFRICA’S RESPONSE TO COVID-19 SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED
Johannesburg, 8 June 2020: The African Peer Review Mechanism launched the Preliminary Report on Africa’s Governance Response to Covid-19 on a virtual platform. The launch was presided over by Honourable Senzo Mchunu Minister of Public Service and Administration for the Republic of South Africa in his capacity as the Chairperson of APRM Committee of Focal Points.
APRM SENSITISES CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS IN THE REPUBLIC OF BOTSWANA IN COLLABORATION WITH SAIIA AND BOCONGO
South Africa, Johannesburg, 20 May 2020 – The APRM, represented by Mr. Hugues Manzila from the Country Review Coordination Division, was invited to join a virtual meeting organized by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and the Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organisations (BOCONGO), in order to sensitise Civil Society Organisations about the APRM Process in the Republic of Botswana.

The APRM launches a series of Virtual Dialogues on Voluntary National Reviews to Support African Countries Reporting on Sustainable Development Goals and National Responses to COVID-19
Johannesburg, 23 April 2020 – The APRM organized its first virtual Dialogue on Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) to continue its commitment as a regional platform for sharing knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices on the governance of Sustainable development goals and Agenda 2063 among AU member states.
The conflicts in #Africa necessitate women's involvement in all pillars of #UNSCR1325. Strengthening the role of women is crucial for #development, in line with the goals and aspirations of #Agenda2063 & the #SDGs.
On the 20th anniversary of #UNSCR1325 on women, peace & security @UNOSAA1 and @APRMorg call for greater inclusion of women in peace and security processes if #Africa is to meet its development aspirations and enjoy meaningful stability.
