PUBLISHED BY:APRM POSTED:19-07-2017

19 – 21 September 2016- Ambassador Ashraf Rashed, member of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons in charge of Sudan, led a Follow-up Mission to the Republic of Sudan from 19 to 21 September 2016. Amb. Rashed was accompanied by the Country Coordinator for Sudan, Mr. Ferdinand Katendeko, and Prof. Melaku Desta, Senior Technical Adviser to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the APRM Secretariat. The Follow-up Mission was carried out upon the submission by Sudan of the first draft of its Country Self- Assessment Report to the APRM Secretariat.

The purpose of the follow-up mission was three-fold:
 To discuss and complement the writing of the Country Self-Assessment Report (CSAR) to its completion;
 To assess the readiness of the country to host the Country Review Mission; and
 To draw up, and discuss, a Road Map and Country Review Mission programme.

The visiting delegation had several meetings with the Focal Point for Sudan, Dr. Ibrahim Dagash, the Chairperson of the National Governing Council (NGC ) , Dr. Atallah al-Bashir, members of the National Governing Council, and Thematic experts who authored the draft Country Self-Assessment Report .

The APRM delegation was received by the First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, H.E. Bakri Hassan Saleh, and also met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hon. Kamal Ismail . Amb. Rashed thanked them for embracing and supporting the APRM process in the country , expressing confidence that the Report will be satisfactory completed , paving the way for the launching of the Review Mission visit and ultimately the Review of the Country during the APR Forum in January 2017.

The First Vice President and the Minister appreciated the objective of the Mission to complement the writing of the CSAR so that the country could be reviewed within the agreed time frame, expressing Sudan’s commitment to the APRM process , and pledged full cooperation with the planned Review Mission.
