Johannesburg, 7 September, 2022: On behalf of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), H.E. Prof Eddy Maloka, Chief Executive Officer of the APRM Continental Secretariat, wishes to congratulate the Republic of Kenya and for holding peaceful General Elections and upholding constitutionalism and rule of law.
The APRM wishes to congratulate the President-Elect Dr. William Ruto on being declared as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya and wishes him a successful tenure in office.
The APRM commends the outgoing President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta for his transformative leadership during his tenure in office and particularly for the revitalisation of the APRM.
The APRM further wishes to congratulate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya, all national and international stakeholders, for their outstanding conduct in holding peaceful elections. The swift and professional conduct of the Supreme Court of Kenya in handing out judgement of the election petition has been exemplary and should be emulated as a best practice on the continent. The APRM salutes the leadership of Hon. Raila Odinga during this process.
The Republic of Kenya is a pioneer in the APRM process and is one of the first four countries to open itself to the critical examination and by so doing contributed to the process of giving a practical form to the mechanism. Kenya has undertaken two APRM country reviews and one Targeted Review and has provided the APRM with enormous support. In this regard, the APRM looks forward to further working with President-Elect, Dr William Ruto, the government and people of Kenya in promoting democracy and good governance on the continent.
The APRM reiterates its continued support to the Republic of Kenya in further strengthening democracy and good governance.
