AU Frameworks and Decisions on Education Consultative Workshop

PUBLISHED BY:APRM POSTED:08-05-2015

The APRM has again gained attention and recognition as the credible monitoring and accountability mechanism for tracking implementation of AU Frameworks and Decisions, these were the views expressed at the Utilizing the APRM for tracking the implementation and achievements of AU Frameworks and Decisions on Education Consultative Workshop.

The technical consultative workshop which was held on 27 November 2014 at Magaliesburg, South Africa brought together experts from the key African institutions dealing with education indicators and statistics: NEPAD Science, Technology and Innovation Hub (NSTIH), Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA); AUC/ Statistics and APRM SED Coordinator.

The meeting sought to analyse APRM indicators on Education for purposes of tracking the implementation and achievements of AU Frameworks and decisions on Education and build synergies and partnerships with key stakeholders on education in Africa. Under the spot light was the extent to which the Socio-economic Development (SED) component of the APRM adequately addressed key education indicators.

Participants at the meeting agreed that the credibility of the APRM depends much on the integrity of information and data contained in the Country Review Report hence the decision to link the APRM SED questionnaire to the key AU Frameworks and decisions on education, including linking the Common Africa Position (CAP) to the post 2015 development agenda.

Dr. Rachel Makumunana, APRM Country Coordinator and SED Expert said the meeting identified missing indicators on Science and Technology and ICT in APRM SED Questionnaire and committed to improve and align the APRM Questionnaire (SED section) with key AU frameworks. She said it was also agreed at the meeting to include the APRM among the key institutions in the AU Strategy for the Harmonisation of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA).
