KENYA PRESENTS PROGRESS REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE TARGET REVIEW

Johannesburg – South Africa 4 April  2022 – H.E. Amb Dr. Samori Okwiya paid a courtesy call on the African Peer Review Mechanism Continental Secretariat  where he was welcomed by the Ag. Chief of Staff, Adv. Batlokoa Makong, on behalf of the APRM Chief Executive Officer, Prof Eddy Maloka. Adv. Batlokoa Makong thanked the H.E. Amb. Okwiya for visit to the APRM Continental Secretariat and hoped that the mission would be  fruitful and ensure the speedily realisation of the mandate of the APRM.

The main discussions revolved around the progress report on the Targeted Review Report of  the Republic Kenya on the Big4 Agenda of the Government namely: Affordable Housing, Affordable healthcare, Food security,  and Manufacturing and development. The discussions also centred around the development of a  roadmap towards the peer review of the Targeted Review of Kenya on the Big4 Agenda and launch of the Report. In addition, the meeting  also deliberated on the importance of ensuring that the peer review of the Targeted Review of Kenya on the Big4 Agenda should be undertaken prior to the end of term of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya. This would highlight his immense contribution to the revitalization of the APRM as well as his role and unwavering commitment to promotion of democracy and good governance on continent and in Kenya since his election as President of Kenya.

H.E. Amb Dr. Samori Okwiya handed over Final Draft National Governance Report of Kenya’s that was developed with the technical support of the APRM Continental Secretariat pursuant to the African Union Assembly Decision, Assembly/AU/Dec.720 (XXXII), State of Governance in Africa.

The Assembly through Decision, Assembly/AU/Dec.720 (XXXII), requested the APRM to provide technical support to member states in developing Country Self-Assessment Reports (CSAR) on Governance.

H.E. Amb Dr. Samori Okwiya and his delegation also had an experience sharing meeting at the APRM Continental Secretariat with the Republic of South Africa APRM National Structures namely, the Chairperson of the National Governing Council, Mr. Thulani Tshefuta, and Head of the National Secretariat, Dr. Patrick Sokhela.

H.E. Amb Dr. Samori Okwiya was accompanied by Mr Frankline Murithi while Adv. Batlokoa Makong was accompanied by Mr. Ferdinand Katendeko, Ag. Director of Operations, Mrs. Virginia Mudhokwani and Emmanuel Marissa, APRM Continental Staff.
