 The Democratic Republic of the Congo Confirms its accession to the APRM

Kinshasa, March 16, 2021. The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), His Excellency Mr. Félix TSHISEKEDI received in audience, at the Cité de l’Union Africaine, a high-level delegation composed of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Marie Tumba NZEZA, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Continental Secretariat of the APRM, Professor Edward Maloka and the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the DRC, His Excellency Abel Mxolisi Shilubane.
The delegation carried an invitation from His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa and current Chairperson of the APR Forum to his Congolese counterpart, His Excellency Félix TSHISEKEDI. He also received a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding to be submitted to the President of the Republic for signature at the next APR Forum.
At the end of this audience, Professor Edward Maloka announced, with satisfaction to the national and international press, that the Democratic Republic of the Congo will officially become the 41st member of the APRM at the next Forum of Heads of State and Government to be held on March 25, 2021.
Prior to the Courtesy Call, the CEO and his collaborators, namely Dr. Valery Yao Yao, Coordinator of Universal Accession to the APRM and Miss Thato Chabana, Assistant to the CEO, were received successively by Her Excellency Elysée Munembwe TAMUKUMWE, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Planning and National Focal Point of the APRM and by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Marie Tumba NZEZA. Presentations and discussions focused on the establishment of the APRM national structures, the added value of APRM to the African Union (AU) Member States, the various types of the APRM reviews, and the process of accession to the Mechanism.During these meetings extended to the Prevention and Enforcement Agency (APLC) and the AU Panel of the Head of State, Professor Edward Maloka, expressed his gratitude to the Congolese authorities not only for the interest in promoting good governance, the exceptional mobilization to guarantee the success of the mission to their country, but also for the appointment of an APRM National Focal Point even before the accession of the country to the Mechanism.
