Following the welcome remarks by the Minister, Mr. Nounké KABA stressed that the successive governments have always shown an interest in the APRM. However, Guinea’s accession process, which lasted almost 17 years, remained an incomplete process. He congratulated the Head of State, His Excellency Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, the Government as well as the Minister, for the positive response to the call of the Mechanism and for finally taking the historic and sovereign decision of Guinea’s accession at the forthcoming APRM Forum.
In his statement, Prof. Eddy Maloka praised the leadership of the current authorities who were kind enough to receive the sensitisation mission, which attests to their resolve to place good governance at the heart of the government’s public policy. He then recalled the key role that Guinea played in the struggle for independence in Africa. He also highlighted the benefits of Guinea’s membership to APRM while reassuring the authorities of the rigor of the APRM process which is participatory and inclusive, and culminates in a country review report.
In his response, H.E Dr. Morissanda KOUYATE stressed that the Head of State unconditionally agreed to accede to APRM as proposed by H.E Julius Maada BIO, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and current Chairperson of the APRM Forum. The Minister added that the Guinean Government is convinced of the high-level standard of APRM Country review reports, and will take all the necessary measures to ensure the success of the mission.
At the press conference, the CEO expressed the availability of the APRM to carry out the targeted review mission on unconstitutional change of government at the earliest convenience of the Government of Guinea. He also expressed his profound gratitude to the authorities for the success of the mission.
As for the Minister, he promised to provide a faithful report to the Head of State on the discussions he had with the APRM delegation.
