With respect to governance, the Ambassador said that Guinea has made significant progress, including the implementation of a multistakeholder national dialogue, the openness of the transition authorities to ECOWAS and the African Union in the joint quest for lasting solutions to manage the transition, and the momentum for the restoration of the rule of law. The role of women in facilitating inter-Guinean dialogue is highly appreciated. Similarly, in terms of challenges, the Panel member emphasised the persistence of communal conflicts, the non-participation of some political parties in the transition process, and the poor state of the country’s economic infrastructure.
On behalf of H.E. Dr. Julius Maada BIO, Chairperson of the APR Forum, the APR Panel of Eminent Persons and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the APRM Continental Secretariat, the Lead Panel member expressed his profound gratitude to Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA for his leadership, his openness and, more importantly, his political commitment to the APRM and to good governance. He also thanked the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, development partners, all state and non-state actors as well as the Inter-ministerial Support Committee. According to Amb. In response, the Head of State welcomed the delegation and emphasised that Guinea believes in African solutions to African problems. The Transition has initiated a vast program to rebuild the country through reforms in various sectors. In this process, the Transition will take all necessary measures to guarantee the independence of the judiciary. Furthermore, being a mining country, the country could have developed adequate economic infrastructure. According to the Colonel, Guinea played a key role in the struggle for independence in Africa. In line with Pan-Africanism, Guinea will always show solidarity to African countries whenever necessary. In conclusion, Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA expressed his gratitude to the APRM, whose recommendations will undoubtedly enable the Transition to take decisions aimed at improving Guinea’s governance profile.
